Choosing Low Cost Dental Insurance

Tips: How to save on Low Cost Dental Insurance

Questions to ask when shopping for low cost dental insurance.

1. Does your dentist have to be in a specific network?
With many plans, using a dentist outside the network means you pay a lot more.

2. What services are not covered?
If you or a family member needs braces, how much will the dental insurance cover?

3. How much is the deductible?
Most plans have a deductible. That's how much you will pay for services out of your own pocket before the plan begins paying the tab. Generally, the lower the deductible, the higher your premiums.

4. Is there a cap on the amount the plan will pay in a calendar year?
Dental insurance companies will spell out the limit they place on how much they will pay for services. When you reach the cap, you are back to paying 100% of the tab.

5. Is there a waiting period on any of the services?
For example, there may be a 90 waiting period before you can use the plan to pay for preventive care such as teeth cleaning. Be sure to ask.
